Dear parents due to inclement weather we will be having early dismissal. All students will be released at 2:00 pm. All Saturday clubs, tutorials, and sports activities have been cancelled. In addition, our family picnic has been postponed until further notice.

Dear Parents,

We would like to notify you that we will continue with normal school hours for tomorrow as of now. We are closely monitoring the weather and if inclement weather approaches and feel that it will be a threat to the safety our students, teachers and staff, there might be a possibility of a school start delay or closure. All updates will be through our school website, social media outlets, and calls through our school messenger.

Time to enroll in clubs and sports!

It’s time to enroll in clubs and sports! HSI-B Enriched School Day schedule is attached for students to choose from a big list of clubs, teams, sports, and College Readiness and Leadership Program (CRLP) for mentoring. The schedule and the application forms were handed during the student orientations and are still available online or in the school office. Students need to fill out an application form for each club they want to be in and return it to club sponsor prior to the deadline. Upon club sponsor’s approval, clubs will start in September. Applications are due on August 27th. Sponsors might hold tryouts or set criteria for competitive teams and they will be announced to the students. Go Wildcats!

Awareness Week

Dear Harmony Parents,

As a school of choice, we strive to give your child the best education possible but we can’t do it without your support. Regular school attendance is an integral part of your child’s academic development and progress.  We kindly ask you for your support, by encouraging daily and punctual attendance which will help your child’s overall academic performance. Please keep in mind that any excused, unexcused absence, tardies and sign-outs causes your child to lose valuable instructional time.

 

Here are some helpful tips that can help increase a child’s daily attendance

  1. Set your morning alarm early, giving your child enough time to get ready for school.
  2. Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep at night.
  3. Schedule doctor’s appointments after school.
  4. Plan family trips during scheduled school vacations.
  5. If doctor clears your child; Student may come late after a doctor’s appointment.

 

***Please advise our campus if your child is going to be absent for the day and please turn in your excuses in a timely manner****

Como escuela de su elección, nos esforzamos por brindarle a su hijo la mejor educación posible, pero no podemos hacerlo sin su apoyo. La asistencia regular a la escuela es una parte integral del desarrollo y progreso académico de su hijo. Le pedimos amablemente su apoyo, alentando la asistencia diaria y puntual que ayudará al rendimiento académico de su hijo. Dear Parents,
Please read the following message reiterating our school dress code policy:
Harmony Public Schools’ dress code policy was established to create a safe and orderly environment, teach grooming and promote proper hygiene, instill discipline, and eliminate competition and distraction.  As we kick off the spring semester, we believe it is important to review these policies, which can be found on pages 16-18 in the Student Handbook.  Please make sure your child arrives at school in appropriate dress every morning.  Students will not be allowed to attend class until they are appropriately dressed and any missed class time will be counted as an unexcused absence.  Violations of these policies will result in incremental disciplinary action.
Some of the most common violations we are experiencing on our campus include students trying to wear non-permitted outerwear (hoodies, sweatshirts, jackets, etc), inappropriate pants (joggers, jeans, yoga/spandex, holes), and footwear (sandals).
The only acceptable items that may be worn over the school shirt in includes v-neck cardigans or v-neck vests in solid colors of navy, red, or black, or the Harmony-logo fleece that was sold in previous years.  All other items must be taken off before entering the building and stored in the students’ locker.  Classrooms are kept at comfortable temperatures, but if students are still cold with a cardigan, they may wear solid colored long sleeve shirts under their school uniform, or purchase some of the new long-sleeved uniform shirts from the front office.
Pants must be blue, black, or khaki pants/slacks and fitted with a leather belt.  Inappropriate pants include jeans, cargo style, yoga, joggers, spandex.  All pants must fit properly, be worn at the waist, must be free of holes/tears, and may not be rolled up at the legs.
All footwear must have closed toes/heels.  Sandals or slides are not permitted.

ASEO Y VESTIMENTA Tal y como lo autoriza la ley estatal y el acta constitutiva de la escuela, los estudiantes deberán usar uniformes escolares. La política de empleo de uniforme escolar y las normas de aseo se establecen con el fin de enseñar los hábitos de aseo e higiene, crear un ambiente de trabajo seguro y ordenado, inculcar la disciplina y eliminar la competencia y los distractores producto del uso de estilos variados en la vestimenta. Se espera que todos los estudiantes lleguen a la escuela con el uniforme adecuado, 16 17 SECCIÓN I: INFORMACIÓN GENERAL Revised in July 2017 Revised in July 2017 muestren prudencia y limpieza y se sientan orgullosos de usar sus uniformes. La escuela confía en el sentido común del estudiante y en el apoyo de los padres de familia para mantener este código de vestimenta. Los padres de familia deberán proporcionar a su(s) estudiante(s) el uniforme requerido, excepto en el caso de estudiantes con discapacidades educativas, tal y como lo establece el Código Educativo de Texas. La escuela puede proveer el uniforme a los estudiantes en desventaja económica. La petición de ayuda por parte de la escuela para comprar los uniformes se debe hacer por escrito y entregarse al Director, deberá incluir evidencia de la incapacidad económica o falta de solvencia. Puede solicitar más información en la Oficina del Director. El padre de familia que elija que su estudiante(s) esté(n) exento(s) del uso del uniforme y/o de las normas de aseo, deberá proporcionar una declaración por escrito, como lo establece el Consejo Directivo, en la que se exponga la objeción a dichos requisitos, basada en criterios religiosos o filosóficos.

Notificación a los padres y estudiantes Si un estudiante llega a la escuela sin el uniforme o sin asear, se contactará a los padres del estudiante para que le traigan un cambio de ropa. El estudiante no podrá entrar a clases hasta que esté vestido apropiadamente. Todas las faltas a clases por este motivo, se contarán como ausencias injustificadas. La escuela se reserva el derecho a decidir y restringir estilos impropios. La violación a la política escolar sobre uniformes y normas de aseo, resultará en sanciones disciplinarias graduales.

Requisitos y limitaciones adicionales en la política de uniformes y arreglo personal Además de utilizar el uniforme escolar adecuado, Harmony Public Schools requiere que los estudiantes respeten los siguientes lineamientos del código de vestimenta. Early Dismissal/Parent Teacher Conference/Spaghetti Night

Parents/Guardians,
We’d like to remind you that on Friday, February 9th, 2018 we will have early dismissal. Middle School will be dismissed at 1:00 pm and High School will be dismissed at 1:20 pm. We will have parent/teacher conferences from 3-6:00 pm and we will also have our Family Spaghetti Night and Art Auction from 4-6:00 pm. HSI 1st Annual Color Run

This color walk/run features a designated 3.2 mile and 1-mile course. During the race, participants are doused with color at various color stations ending with one final color celebration at the finish line.

*1-mile fun run for children of all ages. Medals given to all participants. No trophies*

Best of the Best, City-Wide Math Meet

If you are a fifth grader in the Brownsville area looking for a math challenge, “The Best of the Best” may be for you! “The Best of the Best” is a fast-paced, problem-solving/computation competition where students race to see who can correctly answer as many as questions possible. Individual and team scores will be calculated and awards will be rewarded! So join us individually or gather your team of three from your school and join us for this fun competition.

5th grade students will take a test and top students will get below awards. Students will take an individual test focusing on various topics including; mathematical process, numerical representations-relationships, computations, algebra, geometry, probability, data analysis, mental math, and speed math. Though test is challenging, we hope they will be fun for everyone. We have also included several easy questions on the tests so that new competitors can develop their confidence without getting discouraged. The top 10 contestants will receive certificates commemorating their achievement in addition to the top prizes listed below.

These are the awards according to the Written Exam results:

Students: Individual scores will be used.
1st Place – Trophy & I Pad Air
2nd Place – Trophy & Beats by Dr. Dre – Beats Studio2 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones – Gloss White
3rd Place – Trophy & Kindle Fire
